25th Anniversary Gala Concert

On Sunday 17 January 2016, we put on two amazing Gala Concerts at the artsdepot in Finchley, London to mark our 25th Anniversary year, which began in April 2015.

More than 750 admirers of the Choir's distinctive sound, including Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, Emeritus Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks and the Mayor of Barnet, were treated to an interactive musical journey including video links with Stephen Glass, one of the Choir’s founders now based in Toronto, and Chazanim Naftali Hershtik (Jerusalem) and Shimon Craimer (New York).
Narrator Peter Sheldon OBE, the Choir's Honorary President (non-singing!), introduced a selection of the Choir's repertoire, much of it composed by its long serving Musical Director, Stephen Levey.  Regular soloists Rabbi Lionel Rosenfeld and Chazan Jonny Turgel were joined by guest Chazanim Steve Robins, ‎Avromi Freilich and Rabbi Danny Bergson.
The concerts raised money for British Emunah and its Director Deborah Nathan described them as “brilliant and wonderful”.
The concerts also featured the Choir's very first boy soloist Adam Willman, who first sang with the Choir in 1993!  Adam was joined by current boy soloists Jake Caplan (12 years old), Ilan Galkoff (12yo) and James Hart (11yo).  The Immanuel College Preparatory School Choir joined the performers for rousing renditions of Stephen Levey's acclaimed Oseh Shalom (which now has more than 2.6 million hits on YouTube) and Anim Z’mirot.
